OGN and NI, in collaboration with the worldleading provider of cellular equipment suitable for a satellite environment, Saskatchewan Communications Network (a satellite broadband Internet provider), and the National Research Council, has developed a low cost cellular via satellite technical solution that is ideally suited for deployment in remote, rural communities and meets all of the technical, price and scalability requirements of small remote communities. An operational network deploying this cellular solution in the Kawawachikamach / Schefferville region will be completed within the next three months.

NI is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Naskapi Nation of Kawawachikamach, located in the subarctic region of northern Québec. NI primarily provides internet and VoIP services to five communities in the Kawawachikamach/Schefferville region and will shortly be introducing there videoconferencing services, and importantly cellular services via satellite.
